In order to use the app you log in using the same identification details as you use for Arion Online Bank. After initial installation you can see account balances in real time without logging in. You can lock the app with a numeric password.
First you need to ensure that your phone is connected to the Internet. We recommend Wi-Fi as it speeds up the installation process and is cheaper than using 3G or EDGE.
1. Downloading the App to your phone
If you have an Android phone, find Google Play (sometimes called "Market” or “Play market"). Then search for “Arion Bank” and the app should appear in the search results.
If you have an iPhone go into App Store and search for “Arion Bank” and the app should appear in the search results.
The app is installed in the same way as other apps by selecting "install". The app should then begin to download and the time it takes to download varies depending on the speed of your Internet connection.
2. Starting up the App
After the app has been installed, click on the Arion Bank symbol on the screen to open the app. Once the app has been opened the phone is linked to the Online Bank user by logging in.
3. Logging in and authentication
You log in using the same information as you do when logging in to Arion Online Banking. You then need to enter your user name, password and authentication number (OTP). You can get an authentication number from a security token or sent by SMS.
4. Using the app
When you log in for the first time, you are linked to the accounts and credit cards on which there have been transactions during the last three months. You can select which accounts and cards are displayed under “Settings”.
The app normally displays the latest balance and most recent transactions automatically. In order to fetch the latest balance manually in Android phones, you press the button in the top right-hand corner. The app then establishes contact with the Bank and fetches the latest balance and most recent transactions. In the iPhone you fetch the latest balance by dragging down the list and releasing. This also applies to the actions “Transactions” and “Unpaid bills”.
The Arion App has the following functions
“Balance" displays the selected accounts and credit cards.
You can click on the account/credit card on the list to see the most recent transactions. Go into “Settings” to add or reduce accounts/cards.
“Unpaid bills” shows the accounts registered to your ID-number and those of related parties. This is the same list of bills which appears in your online bank account. At the top of the list there are the bills which have not been paid. Next are optional bills and finally the bills which have yet to be paid but which are debited automatically (direct debit). If the bills have passed their final due date, you are sent a message and the amount due is coloured red. You can see further information on a particular bill by clicking on it. You can also pay this bill by first selecting which account you want to use to pay it and entering the code for that account.
Fast payments allow you to transfer money to a known contact and to pay back your credit cards simply and quickly.
When you choose fast payments in the menu a list appears of the contacts you have transferred money to on two or more occasions. By putting an asterisk next to the name of the recipient, you put the most frequent recipients of payments at the top.
Make a fast payment by dragging the transaction to the right, then enter the code and make the transfer. Simple and quick.
You must be logged in to make financial transactions using your user name, password and an authentication number. Once you have logged in you have the following options to transfer money: Transfer money to your own accounts
Transfer to last 10 recipients
Transfer to friends and family
Transfer to other recipients*
*The last item, transfer to other recipients, has a restriction in the first version of the app that it is not possible to transfer money to people who you haven’t already transferred to via Arion Online Banking.
PIN numbers for debit and credit cards
You can get PIN numbers for debit and credit card issued by the Bank here. To see your PIN number you need to log in with your user name, password and an authentication number.
Arion Bank offers a website which is specially designed for mobile phones where you can:
Use a currency converter and see exchange rates
Find the nearest branch or ATM
Contact a customer service representative
Users can do the following:
View accounts – balance and statements
View credit cards – balance and statements
View and pay unpaid bills
Get PIN numbers for debit and credit cards
Under Settings you can choose a numeric password to lock the app, disconnect the user and select which accounts and credit cards you wish to view.
We highly recommend that you use a numeric password to lock the app. This greatly increases security and means that information is not visible as soon as you switch on the app. We also recommend that you use a PIN number on the phone itself as this too enhances security.
By selecting this option the current user is logged out of the app and all data and information on that user is deleted from the app and the app is reset. It means that when you next switch on the app you need to log in again. All financial information is still available in your online bank account and by logging in again you can retrieve the information. You can also disconnect the user in your online account. Go to “Settings”, then “Smart phone apps” and then choose disconnect device.
By installing the app and linking to the online bank you can receive notifications in your phone. It is similar to receiving an SMS except that it won't cost you anything. For example, you can get notifications when payment has been made into an account or if a payment was unsuccessful. More types of notifications will be available soon.
To allow notifications in Android go into Settings and choose "Get notifications". In iPhone go to "Settings", choose "Notifications" and choose "Arion Bank". Here there are numerous settings where you can choose where and how to receive notifications.
We take security seriously
We have taken all possible measures to ensure that security at our end is up to the highest possible standards. But as with normal computers, a large part of computer security is down to the users themselves. For more details se Q&A under “How can I best ensure computer security?"
A few things about security:
All data sent between the mobile phone and the Bank is encrypted
By having a numeric password (PIN) on your mobile phone, all data in the phone in encrypted
By having a numeric password on the Arion App, all data in the app in encrypted
We highly recommend that you use a numeric password to lock your phone and the app
In the unfortunate event of someone getting hold of the data in your phone, they cannot use this information to make financial transactions. In the worst case the person can see the information which appears on the phone, i.e. balance and the most recent transactions on accounts and credit cards as well as information on unpaid bills. Credit card numbers are not stored in the phone, only the final digits in the card number.
