Fearless Girl comes to Iceland

The world-famous statue Fearless Girl, a symbol of resilience and courage recognized around the globe, is coming to Iceland. The occasion is the success achieved through Arion Bank's Women Invest initiative over the past few years.

Fearless Girl will be on public display at Borgartún 19 on Friday, October 16th, between 9 AM and 12 PM. Coffee will be served along with freshly fried Icelandic doughnuts. We encourage everyone to come and see the statue in person – and perhaps take a few photos with her.

A symbol of courage and resilience

The Fearless Girl statue was originally installed in New York by State Street Investment Management to mark International Women's Day in 2017. The statue quickly captured global attention as it stood face to face with the famous Charging Bull on Wall Street, and in recent years has become one of the world's most recognized symbols of women's strength, courage, and leadership.

Today, Fearless Girl stands in front of the New York Stock Exchange, where thousands of visitors see her every day. Many stop to take photos with the statue and recreate her iconic pose – head held high, hands on hips.

The statue's message is to inspire people to face the future with courage and to believe in their own abilities.

Recognition of the success of the Women Invest initiative

The arrival of Fearless Girl in Iceland represents recognition of the success achieved through Arion Bank's Women Invest initiative over the past two and a half years. The goal of the initiative is to increase women's participation in financial markets and strengthen their financial independence.

More than 10,000 women have now attended events organized by Women Invest. There, they have received education, inspiration, and practical tools to take their first steps in investing or to further develop their knowledge. We encourage everyone to explore the Women Invest educational programme in October and take part in the events on offer.

Arnaud Bruyneel, Head of Nordics at State Street Investment Management:

"We are delighted that the message of Fearless Girl resonates so strongly in Iceland, and we believe the success of Women Invest demonstrates how education and empowerment can have a real impact. That is why it gives us particular pleasure to allow the Fearless Girl statue to visit Iceland."

The Women Invest initiative has therefore begun to attract attention far beyond Iceland’s borders and has become part of a broader conversation about women’s participation in economic life and investing around the world. The statue has rarely been transported between countries, so its visit to Iceland is a great cause for celebration.

We are not proceeding with the announced fee increases and will seek to keep increases below 2.5%

On 23 July, we announced increases to various items in Arion Bank’s list of fees and charges that were due to take effect two months later, on 23 September. These related to fees that had not been increased for many years, including services for which the Bank relies on external providers, such as distribution companies that had raised their charges by more than the Bank had raised its own fees. These announced changes to fees and charges have not been implemented.
