Thanks for vis­it­ing us, Fear­less Girl!

The arrival of Fearless Girl in Iceland last week attracted a great deal of attention. The statue, created by artist Kristen Visbal, was originally installed in New York by State Street Investment Management to mark International Women’s Day in 2017. It quickly garnered worldwide attention as it stood face to face with the famous Charging Bull on Wall Street, and in recent years has become one of the world’s best-known symbols of women’s strength, courage and leadership. Today, Fearless Girl stands outside the New York Stock Exchange, where she is seen by thousands of visitors every day.

The statue visited us at Arion Bank on 15–16 October in recognition of the success of the Bank’s Women Invest initiative. It is extremely rare for the statue to travel away from its home.

Many people made their way to Arion’s headquarters at Borgartún 19 to see Fearless Girl and take a few photos with her, including young women, families, mothers with their children and older women. It was truly wonderful to see the smiles she brought to the faces of visitors to the building. The statue’s message is to inspire people to face the future with courage and believe in their own abilities.
