In some cases, rent is index-linked, which means the amount changes in line with an index, usually the Consumer Price Index (CPI), rather than remaining fixed for the duration of the tenancy.
This must be clearly stated in the tenancy agreement, including which index is used and how often the rent is recalculated.
If a tenancy agreement is for less than 12 months, it cannot be linked to an index.
