Accounts with Arion Bank
Whether you are in Iceland for a short time or a resident, Arion Bank offers you comprehensive financial services to suit your needs. However, in order to open a bank account in Iceland all applicants must have an Icelandic ID number (kennitala). Foreign nationals should apply for an Icelandic ID number at the offices of the National Registry (þjóðskrá). If you are not located in Iceland, but would like to open an account in the country you might consider a custody account (brokerage account) with Arion Bank.
Opening a Bank Account with Arion Bank
Once you have an Icelandic ID number you can visit any of Arion Bank's branches throughout the country to open an account. Be sure to bring your passport. One of our service representatives will be able to advise on which account and services suit your needs best.
For foreign nationals we recommend the following:
- A current account and debit card for 24-hour access to your funds
- Online banking available in four languages (Icelandic, English, Danish, and Polish) to take care of most banking matters whenever and wherever it's convenient for you
- Savings accounts
- Pension services for those working in Iceland
- International currency transactions for transfers abroad and receiving funds from overseas
- Customer service center open weekdays from 9am to 5pm
