The Greenhouse is a philosophy where we approach hotel, retail, and dining experiences in a new way. We wanted to develop a new concept that would be brand and design-driven with sustainability as a guiding principle. We wanted to make this an exciting destination that would be fun to visit - where you can stay, eat, shop, and experience a wonderful atmosphere in a unique way - making the Greenhouse a vibrant destination for both Icelanders and foreign tourists.
We wanted to think of this from the beginning as a fun place that people in Hveragerði and the surrounding area would visit and experience. If Icelanders enjoy coming over the heath to stay, eat, and shop - then tourists will come too.
Tourists want to be where there is culture and where there are people, and that applies to Icelanders as well.
The big idea behind the project is actually collaboration. We create the framework and then we want to collaborate with popular restaurants and well-known brands. This cooperation expands everything. We wanted to create an experience and work with people who could bring expertise and experience to the table that we don't have. The Greenhouse is meant to create success around itself - that's what good collaboration is all about.
We therefore placed great emphasis on meeting people in the area, introducing them to what we were bringing into the community and creating these connections. We provide accommodation, food, drinks, and retail, which supports other recreational activities in the area. All the people who are doing amazing things in diverse recreation and outdoor activities - from hiking, golf and horseback riding to ATVs and cave exploration and everything in between. These ripple effects are so gratifying.
It's rewarding to see that we have a positive impact on the town and community, growing the pie here in the environment and bringing traffic to all this local tourism ecosystem. That's an important part of being a sustainable business.
