The idea for Lava Show first sparked in the minds of couple Ragnhildur Ágústsdóttir and Júlíus Ingi Jónsson in 2010:
We got the idea for Lava Show when we witnessed the eruption at Fimmvörðuháls.
We watched in awe as the red-hot molten lava flowed down a 200-meter cliff and thought to ourselves: Would it be possible to recreate this experience safely for both Icelanders and tourists?

We have driven this brainchild of ours forward with passion right from the beginning. At first, no one believed in it. Parents, family, friends – everyone thought we had lost our minds! People probably didn't fully understand what we had in mind. But we were convinced that this formula would work.
Foreign tourists come here to see spectacular landscapes, experience the forces of nature, and gain insight into the history of the Icelandic nation. We wanted to weave all of this together into one unforgettable show where we recreate these magnificent conditions by melting lava and pouring it into an exhibition hall right before the eyes of our guests.
It has taken many years to bring the company to where it is today and has cost us immeasurable work. Arion Bank has stood very firmly behind us in this entrepreneurial journey, believed in the idea from the very beginning, and been an important partner in helping it grow and flourish into the company that Lava Show is today. Without that support, we wouldn't have reached this point.
Now we're delivering positive results, employing many people, and allowing tourists and Icelanders alike to gain insight into the magnificent forces of our volcanic island in a safe environment and experience the only show of its kind in the entire world. We were also pleased to receive both the 2024 Best of the Best from Tripadvisor and the 2025 Viator Experience Awards, both of which are given to those who receive the best reviews on these travel booking sites, and according to them, we are offering one of the best experiences in tourism worldwide.
That is success for us.
